About Me
Hey there! First of all thank you for your interest in my site, and for wanting to get to know me better. I am humbled by this and I hope I can do a good job of introducing myself as well as my site.
My name is Mai. I'm Egyptian, born and raised in the capital city - Cairo. I've spent most of my 30 years of life here. Cairo is my home at the moment, but I am a nomad by heart. I love to travel and I tire if I stay in the same place too long.
Traveling renews my energy and love of life.
Egypt, thankfully, offers me the opportunity to travel and see so much. Such an old civilization with such a rich history thrills me. From the ancient artifacts, to the religious monuments - I can discover something new every time I go out exploring.
Ancient Egypt, Coptic Egypt, Ottoman Egypt, Islamic Egypt, Nubian Egypt... the list goes on.
Other than that there are beautiful deserts, oases, beaches and cities. Sinai is one of my favorite holiday destinations. I can go camp in the desert, sand-board the dunes, relax in the hot springs of the Siwan Oasis, dive in the red sea, take a Nile cruise, or just go meditate at the pyramids on the weekend!
I'm planning on sharing all this information with you, with more sites dedicated to the different aspects of this mystic land.
But this site is the first in the series, as Ancient Egypt holds a special place in my heart...
Why Ancient Egypt?
Ever since I was a little girl the most fun I ever had was when my mother would take me with her on one of her guided ancient Egypt tours. She was working as a tour guide at the time.
That's her holding me as a baby - on the left :-)
As she talked about the history of the monuments and the stories behind them to the tourists, I would slip away and play make-believe.
I would imagine myself back in the time of the pharaohs, and wonder what life was like back then.
All the architecture and carved symbols were like a type of magic to me.
It was a mystical playground.
Till now, those were some of the best days of my life. They instilled in me a sense of wonder and reverence for history and culture.
Till now, every time I pass by the pyramids on the highway, my breath is taken away in awe.
I am not an Egyptologist myself, but I have studied and experienced ancient Egypt first hand. I live and breathe this passion for my ancient ancestors - especially after knowing that we went from being one of the world's first great civilizations to what is now a third world country.
Still, no matter what, Egypt is and will always be my homeland. I love it!
